NWS confirms 6th SWFL tornado, an EF1; Lee County EF2 tornado path now 4 times longer


The National Weather Service has updated the track for an EF2 tornado that hit Lee County Sunday morning as severe weather crossed Southwest Florida, and an additional tornado was confirmed in Charlotte County.

The track, previously thought to be 1.8 miles, is now confirmed to be 7.9 miles and lasted for 16 minutes.

The tornado that caused extensive damage in Iona also went through Gulf Harbour and crossed the Cape Coral Bridge.

In all, there were 6 tornados to touch down Sunday morning.

The NWS confirmed an additional EF1 tornado Tuesday afternoon in the Gulf Cove area of Charlotte County with 100 mph wind. It went through the Village of Holiday Lake.
