Farmer Joe’s opened its doors in Cape Coral on Tuesday and people are shopping in big numbers.
The new grocery store on Pine Island Road offers a farm-to-table experience.
Nearly every spot in the parking lot was full and police directed traffic.
Some people parked at Aldi next door.
The owner said he expected a grand opening but nothing like this.
“A lot of different things that you can’t find anywhere but online or you have to drive all the way down to Naples or Tampa or some places to find these cool things,” said Carlo Galloway of Cape Coral.
She said the store is what Cape Coral needs.
“Fresh-made guacamole and it was really really good and I have a sensitivity to wheat and you can’t find these any place so I was really excited to see these,” Galloway said.
The store is 55,000 square feet. To prepare, 500 employees were hired ahead of opening day.
A gallon of milk cost a couple of pennies difference at Farmer Joe’s compared to Aldi. Bananas at Farmer Joe’s were on sale for 49 cents meanwhile at Aldi they were for 37 cents.
Eggs cost $1.99 at Farmer Joe’s and $1.79 at Aldi.
Farmer Joe’s partnered with 20 different Florida farms to make regular deliveries.
Galloway said she will be back.
“Definitely for fun and different kinds of foods I’ll be coming here and their meats are beautiful,” she said.
